Abstract

Problem-solving plays an important role in the early stages of cognitive development. Problem-solving is a basic understanding of cognition and thinking. Initial observations indicate that there are issues with problem-solving abilities among the children at Widya Kumara Kumba Kindergarten. This study aims to determine problem-solving skills through play using puzzles in group B1 at Widya Kumara Kumba Kindergarten, which consists of 17 children. This study is classroom action research (CAR) consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection carried out in two cycles, namely Cycle I and Cycle II. The data collection techniques used were observation, documentation, and interviews. The data analysis methods employed were descriptive and cumulative statistical analysis. Based on the data collected, the use of puzzles as a medium for play-based learning was found to enhance problem-solving skills among the B1 group at TK Widya Kumara Kumba. This can be seen from the increase in the percentage of children's achievement from the initial observation, which was only achieved by 3 children (18%). In Cycle I, it increased to 7 children (41%), and in Cycle II, it increased again to 15 children (88%). Therefore, it can be concluded that the play method using puzzle media can strengthen the problem-solving skills of young children. Therefore, puzzle media can be recommended to enhance problem-solving skills.
