Aims and Scope

Islamic Education: Jurnal Pendidikan Islam is a peer-reviewed academic journal dedicated to publishing original, high-quality research on the dynamic relationship between Islamic educational thought, educational institutions, teaching and learning practices, and contemporary Muslim societies. The journal promotes theoretical, empirical, and interdisciplinary scholarship that critically examines how Islamic educational values and knowledge are interpreted, taught, implemented, developed, and negotiated across diverse social, cultural, institutional, and technological contexts.

Aims

The journal aims to advance critical and evidence-informed inquiry into Islamic education while connecting scholarly analysis with educational practice. It seeks to encourage rigorous discussion of Islamic educational philosophy and traditions, curriculum and pedagogy, educational governance, character and moral development, and the challenges faced by Islamic educational communities in Indonesia and other contexts.

Scope

The journal welcomes contributions from researchers, lecturers, teachers, educational leaders, and practitioners employing conceptual, historical, qualitative, quantitative, mixed-methods, and interdisciplinary approaches. Particular areas of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Islamic educational philosophy and thought: foundational concepts, classical and contemporary educational perspectives, and their implications for learning and educational development.
  • Curriculum, pedagogy, and assessment: Islamic education curricula, instructional strategies, learning materials, educational evaluation, and innovations in teaching and learning.
  • Islamic religious education and character formation: teaching of Islamic knowledge and values, ethical development, religious character, and learning environments.
  • Institutions, leadership, and governance: madrasahs, pesantren, Islamic schools, universities, educational management, policy, quality assurance, and teacher professional development.
  • Education, society, and culture: Islamic education in family and community life, social inclusion, diversity, cultural change, and relationships between education and social development.
  • Digital transformation and contemporary challenges: educational technology, digital learning, artificial intelligence in education, and emerging issues affecting Islamic educational practices.

Submissions are expected to offer a clear scholarly contribution to Islamic education through an appropriate research design or well-supported conceptual argument. Studies engaging broader educational or social questions are welcome when their relevance to Islamic education is explicitly established.
