Withdrawal of Manuscript

Islamic Education: Jurnal Pendidikan Islam recognizes that withdrawing a submitted manuscript may sometimes be necessary. Authors are generally discouraged from withdrawing a manuscript that is under review, except in exceptional and well-justified circumstances, such as the identification of serious errors, ethical concerns, or other compelling reasons. Withdrawal at this stage may disrupt the peer-review process and require substantial time and effort from editors, reviewers, and the publisher.

Grounds for Withdrawal

A request may be justified by a serious factual or methodological error, a substantial concern involving research ethics or participant protection, unresolved authorship or permission issues, or another compelling circumstance that prevents responsible continuation of the submission. Dissatisfaction with reviewer comments or a wish to submit elsewhere does not, by itself, remove an author's obligation to complete the journal's withdrawal procedure.

Submitting a Withdrawal Request

The corresponding author should submit a written request through the journal's official editorial communication channel, identifying the manuscript title or submission reference, the reasons for withdrawal, and confirmation that all co-authors have been informed and agree with the request. Where consent cannot be obtained from every author, the situation should be explained so that the editorial office can assess any authorship dispute before taking further action.

All withdrawal requests are subject to editorial review and are assessed on a case-by-case basis. The editor may request supporting information or clarification when a request raises concerns about originality, ethics, authorship, research participants, or overlapping submissions.

Editorial Assessment and Confirmation

Submitting a request does not automatically terminate an active editorial process. A manuscript will be considered formally withdrawn only after written confirmation has been issued by the Editorial Office. Until that confirmation has been received, authors should not assume the submission has been closed or submit an identical manuscript to another journal in a manner that would constitute simultaneous submission.

Where a withdrawal request concerns suspected research misconduct or a serious ethical problem, the journal may need to examine the concern before determining the appropriate editorial outcome. The withdrawal process must not be used to conceal ethical breaches or interfere with a legitimate investigation.

Withdrawal and the Published Record

Withdrawal of a manuscript before publication is different from the correction or retraction of a published article. Concerns arising after publication are addressed through the journal's Retraction and Correction Policy, with an appropriate and traceable public notice when needed to preserve the integrity of the scholarly record.

Authors, editors, and reviewers are expected to communicate respectfully and in good faith throughout the process. Editorial decisions concerning the withdrawal request are recorded by the journal to support accountability and consistency.
